The UNcivilized Mind

Therapy Application

Pain is the single greatest teacher, most men are too afraid to learn from.

Pain is also the single greatest leader, most men are afraid to follow.

Traver Boehm

I know this personally.

I remember sitting down with two of my old clients a month after unceremoniously landing face down on rock bottom.

My wife was gone, my business partnership was now in the hands of two sets of lawyers, and I was 30 days sober. My journey through the belly of the beast had barely even begun and I was already praying for it to end.

When I described to my client the speed at which my business had grown and the personal toll growing so quickly, getting married, and starting to write publicly had taken on me, she (a therapist herself) said these fateful words:

“Goddamn, you should have had a therapist that entire time.”

Despite how much respect I had for her I remember thinking — “A therapist, no fucking way.”

And yet there I was, with the results of 40 years of my life square in my lap.

A marital divorce. A business divorce. Addiction and a lifetime of unresolved pain. Talk about a shit sandwich.

By the time I left her house that night I made one of the single best decisions I’ve ever made — I hired Tom Elsner, my new therapist.

Still not fully ok as a guy who “needed therapy” (I mean…my results were stunning, weren’t they?)...

I called him — “Coach.”

He used to laugh and tell me I was his only client who referred to him as such.

But to me that’s exactly what Tom was. He was a guide. He was a teacher. And also, he was very much what the sign on his door clearly stated — Therapist.

Look, I get it. There’s a stigma for us men around asking for help.

About appearing weak.

About admitting that we’re struggling.

About being anything less than awesome all the time.

And that stigma has killed more of us than cancer and stupidity — combined.

Most men simply need permission.

Permission to be human.

Permission to admit things have gotten a little out of control.

Permission to break the rules and reach out and ask for some help.

If you need it here it is —

PERMISSION.

Whether that’s here with us at Team UNcivilized or elsewhere. Truly, we just want you to find someone who jives with you and can get you back on your feet so you CAN get back out there being awesome and kicking ass.

You don’t have to do what I and so many men before you have done:

You don’t have to feel like you’re all alone.

You don’t have to feel like you’re the only one who’s struggling.

You don’t have feel ashamed for being less than a damn super hero all day long.

You don’t have to resort to numbing yourself with booze, weed, and porn day in/day out because you’re angry or depressed at where you find yourself right now.

YOU DON’T HAVE TO DO ANY OF THAT.

But you do have to take a step forward and accept some guidance and support. And we KNOW the best person to give you that support is another man.

I know it’s scary to admit you don’t have it all figured out when that’s the societal expectation of you as a man. Get over that shit, doing so is a game changer.

I get it, it takes courage to reach out — I’ve done it myself. It takes the warrior spirit in you coming alive and saying:

Fuck this, I’ve finally had enough and I’m calling in an expert. I’m more interested in my results than I am staying stuck in this loop of guilt and shame.

I’M MORE INTERESTED IN BRAVELY LEARNING FROM MY PAIN THAN I AM RUNNING FROM IT FOR ONE MORE DAY.

It’s time to start advocating for you.

And letting someone who’s been where you are be there for you.

It’s time to take a deep breath, be brutally honest about the fact that if you could have done it on your own you would have done it already — and fill out the form below.

We will review your application, hop on a quick call with you to get a feel for where you’re at then let one of our Licensed Men’s Therapists reach out to you to talk about working together.

Zero obligation. Zero hard sell.

Welcome to the best decision of your life.
